Remember Her?
This girly is so funny. Lately, she is acting so old and grown-up. Today, I realized she is turning into my little buddy. I die laughing when I catch her with my cell phone talking away with her peeps. This entire week we have just stayed in and played at home...it has been nice. She walks around the house jabbering away, acting as if she owns the place. She even managed to scribble with a black sharpie all over my wallet, today, when I was trying to order some pictures on-line. I had a hunch that those few moments of silence meant she was up to no good, but a few free moments without her bugging me to play on the computer are a rare commodity. I take what I can get!
Since we really haven't left the house since Monday, we decided to make a sonic run for a drink. Ruby insisted that Mr. Monkey come along, so the three of us braved the cold and snow and piled into the car. I ordered myself a drink and then decided to order some tater-tots for Ruby and I to share. I handed Ruby a tot before pulling out of the drive-thru, which she excitedly yanked out of my hand. See what I mean....buddies. As we made our way home, I looked back to Ruby attempting to feed Mr. Monkey her tot. How could I have been so rude to forget about Mr. Monkey?
And although Ruby's jabbering is still primitive and hard to understand, her sign language skills are awesome (I am her mother, remember...so of course I think she is a genius baby :). Her few words include (I say words loosely) ma-ma, da-da, fra (frog), cat, hat, dah-dah (dog), ba-ba (bottle), ca (cars), Call (her aunt), Clar (Clark, her crush), up, neigh (horse), qua (quack), and Po (Kung-Fu Panda). She is good at signing milk, water, food, all-done, more, frog, car, cat, hat, bird, dog, horse, candy (just did this today), surprise, grumpy, sleep, bear (she specifically wants the Utah Jazz Bear), cheese, cracker, cereal, please, and thank you. I know you are thinking I must be a very skilled mother to teach my daughter ASL, but I can take no credit. We have been watching "Signing Times" since Ruby was an infant and after a few months she started picking up on the signs (as have I). Thanks to aunt Kristina for introducing us! These videos are great with fun music and songs. Check them out here. Ruby's signing makes me feel less guilty about letting my daughter watch tv (I recently read that children under two shouldn't watch tv...oops!) Maybe educational videos don't count...what about movies? Ruby is always asking to watch "Cars" or "Po"...and I usually let her. At least she only lasts about ten minutes before she is on to something new.
Ruby girl...I just wanted to document what you have been up to lately. The past month has passed in a blink of an eye and suddenly you aren't my baby anymore. I just hope you know we love you and your brother so much.
