Memorial Day 2012.
This memorial day my heart has been particularly turned to my Grandma Meyer who passed away a couple weeks before we left to Costa Rica. Her funeral was the Monday before we left. One of the sweetest thoughts I had was thinking about my Grandma going to the spirit world and not only being reunited with my Grandpa Fred, but being with my little Hughie. Ruby shared the same sentiment when she told me that Grandma would also get to be with her bird, Willie, who also passed away in the last year.
The services for my Grandma were just beautiful. My dad and his siblings did a wonderful job sharing stories and memories about my Grandma to help us all remember her great legacy of faith and courage. The day of her funeral really was such a lovely day. It was great spending time with all of my dad's family...especially because we are rarely all together. It was a great way to pay tribute to my sweet Grandma...all of us enjoying each other and being together. I'm sure she was looking down on us with a smile on her face.

1925 ~ 2012
Agnes Schmid Meyer proved you don't have to push a handcart to be a pioneer. She left her homeland to follow her faith and ended up inspiring everyone she met.
Agnes, 86, died April 24, 2012.
She was born Oct. 5, 1925 in Malix, Switzerland, the oldest of Gaudenz and Mengia (Clagluna) Schmid's three daughters. She was born a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ardently lived its gospel throughout her life. In fact, just a few days after her 25th birthday, she left Switzerland for Salt Lake City to be closer to the church. To arrive, she had to overcome her fear of water during a week-long ride on the SS America. She also had to learn English quickly on the train ride to Salt Lake City.
Once in Salt Lake City, Agnes helped work a mighty change of heart in her future husband, Fernando Reinhart Meyer. They were married for nearly 50 years.
She loved math and wanted to be a teacher, but she put aside her dream to stay home with her family and taught more important lessons than arithmetic. She was always devoted to her children, Scott, Linda (Brown), Joyce (Aramburu), Heidi (Ingham) and Hans, and her legacy of faith and perseverance lives on in them.
She also touched the members of the Holladay 24th and Valley View 8th wards where she magnified all her callings for more than 60 years. She also found ways to connect with her homeland and spread Swiss culture through the Swiss Chorus Edelweis and her many Swiss friends.
She is survived by her five children, her sister Domenika Helg, 15 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister Matilda Kanzig, her in-laws Karl and Wanda Meierhoffer and Hans and Elsbeth Meyer, her friend Albert Lutz, and her great grandson Hugh Van Wagenen
Her family would like to especially thank Dr. Hanadi Farrukh for her loving care, and Agnes' friends and family at The Coventry Independent and Assisted Living and Aspen Ridge Transitional Rehabilitation.
Viewing will be Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E., Murray, UT. The service will be Monday, April 30, from 11 to noon at the Valley View 8th Ward, 4395 S.
