I just finished reading Greg Mortenson's second book, Stones into Schools, and absolutely loved it. I enjoyed his first book and this one is even better! The cover reads, "Promoting Peace Through Education in Afghanistan and Pakistan" and the book illustrates, very well, how such a task is unfolding in these countries through Greg Mortenson's Central Asia Institute. For me, the book put a face to the people of Afghanistan and reinforced that we are all God's children regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, etc. Greg Mortenson's love for the people of these countries really is contagious. I am simply awe-struck with his immense success in building schools in some of the most remote parts of the entire world; with the schools only being built if the community can promise at least 50% enrollment of young women. Mortenson strongly believes that educating girls is the key to changing and helping communities rise above their current impoverished condition. Enough of my rambling...read this book. A Must Read.
